YAK WOOL
What is Yak Wool?
Yak wool is derived from the coat of yaks, a herd animal that is found in the mountainous regions of Pakistan and Central Asia. Yaks have long shaggy hair and a dense woolly undercoat. It is this soft fine under hair that is most desirable for manufacturing, and is removed by dehairing. These fibers are then spun into yarns to make a very soft wool.Properties of yak wool
Yak wool is naturally brown to fawn in colour. It is very warm and shiny having a higher lustre than wool. Yak wool fibers are very fine, being around 17 to 19 microns in diameter, which is around the same fineness as cashmere.Read more
Cashmere Wool
What is Cashmere Wool?
Cashmere is a natural speciality animal fiber, derived from the soft undercoat of a range of Asiatic goat breeds. The wool of cashmere goats has been processed into beautiful textiles since around 1000 BC in their homeland, the Kashmir Valley. The goat’s coat is combed, removing only the softest fibres of the undercoat, which has kept the goats warm in -30°C temperatures.
Properties of cashmere
Cashmere is known for its extreme softness, warmth and lustrous quality, a result of its extremely fine fibres. This fineness gives cashmere its silky feel – and it’s truly an uncomparable experience. Cashmere occurs naturally in only three colours: white, gray and brown.Read more
